Pool Deck Layout Plans: A Guide to Pool Shape

By John Kapp at 2017-06-08 19:48:53
Pool deck plans often start with the idea of wanting to have a swimming pool installed. Part of a pool deck layout is the pool itself. It is rare to want a deck first before wanting to have a pool. Either the body of water comes first before the deck or they spark interest in your mind at the same time. One of the most important considerations for pool deck designs is the shape of the swimming pool. Why?

· Determines the right pool deck design
· Should fit the family’s lifestyle
· Additional outdoor features can be planned around it
· Should complement the home’s exterior

So, what shape would work best for you?

Rectangle Pool and Deck Ideas

This is probably the most traditional pool shape for both residential and commercial installations. This is ideal for swimmers who love to do laps. Because of its simple geometric design, it is also ideal for homeowners or commercial hosts who love to throw formal parties by the pool.

Oval Pool Design

Applicable on both in ground and above ground pool decks, oval pools are less formal than the rectangular type. It is ideal for families that love to incorporate water sports since it is spacious enough to accommodate equipment and swimming accessories.

Kidney-shaped Pools

This is the most natural-looking pool type and is more ideal for in ground pool deck layouts, because of its informal shape. This is highly advisable for homes with limited backyard space. The slight indentation on one side makes it easier to fit in small areas. Deck layout ideas can also be incorporated better because of the available space around the pool.

Figure 8 Pool and Deck Design

The figure 8 often features small and large rounded ends, making it look like the number 8. This is a great way to separate the depth of the area for adults and a more shallow area for kids. Such shape will work better on an in-ground pool than on an above ground pool deck area.

Free Form Pool and Deck

A free form pool shape is for the adventurous by heart. Because it does not conform to any standard shape, your imagination is the limit. Often, this is ideal for pools that are designed to look like it was pulled out from a natural environment like a forest or lake. It is also an option for people with limited and challenging backyard space.
